Mitole filly earns TDN Rising Star tag following 16 1/4-length debut romp
October 18, 2024
Shisospicy heated up the Gulfstream Park track on Friday afternoon when the 2-year-old Mitole filly ran away from the field to a 16 ¼-length maiden special weight win in her career debut.
The gray/roan filly is the fourth TDN Rising Star for Mitole, who leads all Second-Crop sires by both winners, with 82, and wins, with 124.
Shisospicy was very quick out of the gate in the six-furlong race and established a two-length lead in the first quarter-mile. She widened the margin out to 3 ½-lengths at the top of the stretch, then with minimal urging from Paco Lopez, drew away at will to finish up in 1:10.65.
This April Shisospicy went through the sales ring at the OBS 2-year-old sale, where she missed her reserve at $300,000 despite an ultra-quick pre-race work of :09 3/5. Consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, after the sale she remained in training for Morplay Racing Stable and her consignor.
“I really liked this filly from the first day. In Ocala, (Randy Hartley) had so many horses and I said, ‘I really like the gray filly. If you don’t sell her, send her to me, because to me she is the best horse at the sale,’” trainer Jose D’Angelo said. “I’ve always had confidence in [her].”
Bred by Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Shisospicy is the second foal out of the Into Mischief mare Mischief Galore.
