Mitole colt’s first stakes win comes by an astounding 13 ¼-lengths
May 19, 2024
Mr Fillip ran away from the field at the top of the Prairie Meadows stretch to win the May 18 Golden Circle S. by a gaudy 13 ¼-lengths.
The 3-year-old Mitole colt, who was an even fourth last out in the March 23 Hot Springs S. at Oaklawn Park, dusted an overmatched field in Saturday’s six-furlong contest. He pressed pacesetter Desperate Man until taking over turning for home, then ran up the score while under a hand ride.
The final time of 1:09.14 on a fast main track earned the winner a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 98.
Mr Fillip is owned by Randy Howg, John Holleman, Norman Tremblay, Surging Sky Ventures, LLC, Brian McGinnis & Selman Shaby. The dark bay colt is 2-1-1 in five starts and has earned $137,075.
Bred in Kentucky by Susan Mouton, Mr Fillip is the first foal out of the two-time stakes winner Filibustin, who herself has two stakes-winning siblings. Mr Fillip sold to his owners for $300,000 at the 2023 OBS Spring 2-year-old sale.
Mitole was the 2023 champion First-Crop sire and leads this year’s Second-Crop sire list by wins with 40 and is second to fellow Spendthrift sire Vino Rosso by individual winners with 32.
