Mitole colt razor-sharp in Oaklawn’s Commodore S.

February 25, 2025

Booth blasted out of the Oaklawn Park starting gate and never looked back in Monday’s $150,000 Commodore S., rolling to a 4 ¾-length win in the six-furlong contest.

The victory marked the first stakes win for the 4-year-old Mitole colt trained by Steve Asmussen for Corinne & William Heiligbrodt, Jackpot Farm and Whispering Oaks Farm LLC.

Mitole has gotten off to an excellent start in his third crop season. He has a pair of stakes winners, three stakes horses, and his 27 individual winners are the most to date for any Third-Crop sire.

Booth returned to his front-running style for the first time since his maiden-breaking debut win in October of 2023. He set extremely quick fractions of :21.93 and :44.98, yet still was able to draw off with complete authority in the stretch to stop the timer in 1:08.64 on a fast track.

Monday’s win gave Booth four victories in eight starts and upped his earnings to $33,691. Out of stakes winner Sophia’s Song, Booth is a half-brother to Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) winner Bright Future and Locust Grove S. (G2) winner Musical Mischief.

Booth was bred in Kentucky by Clearsky Farms and sold to his owners for $225,000 at the 2023 OBS March 2-year-old sale.
