Mitole begins August with a pair of dominating maiden winners

Leading First-Crop sire Mitole tallied two new maiden winners on Aug. 1 to secure his spot atop the 2023 First-Crop sire list. Mitole, along with fellow Spendthrift first-year sires Omaha Beach and Vino Rosso, are the only three on the same list with multiple stakes horses.

Mitole’s winners on Tuesday were Mybronxbaby and Sapphire Nights.

Mybronxbaby rolled to a 8 ¾-length maiden special weight win going five furlongs at Finger Lakes Racetrack. The bay filly, who was making her debut, led from the start and was never threatened at any point in her dominating victory.

Mybronxbaby is owned by her breeder Joseph DeRico. She is the first foal out of My Bronx Tail and comes from the family of multiple graded stakes winner Kauai Katie.

Sapphire Nights was Mitole’s second winner of the day. The gray or roan filly also won at five furlongs, scoring by 6 ¼-lengths at Ellis Park. Like Mybronxbaby, she led the entire trip.

Sapphire Nights is a Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt homebred and is the first foal out of the Into Mischief mare Mischief Galore.
