Meadow Dance captures Weathervane S. in front-running style
September 22, 2019
Meadow Dance became Jimmy Creed’s second stakes winner of the day Saturday when the 3-year-old filly led the entire six-furlong trip to win the $100,000 Weathervane S. at Laurel Park.
The dark bay has been ultra-consistent her entire career, never finishing worse than third in seven starts. Saturday’s win, her fourth and first in a stakes, upped her lifetime earnings to $236,110. She also placed in the Alcibiades (G1) last year at two.
Jimmy Creed was also represented Saturday by $300,000 Gallant Bob S. (G2) winner King Jack; the top-10 Third-Crop sire now has five stakes winners and 10 black type horses overall this year.
Meadow Dance sprinted right to the lead from the gate, leading the field through splits of :22.49 and :45.75. She opened up by three lengths in mid-stretch, then comfortably held off Needs Supervision to win by a little more than a length in 1:09.37.
“It’s always nice when your horse breaks on top,” jockey Sheldon Russell said. “The filly broke and put me in a great spot. I felt like she was going easy enough in upper stretch and I was very happy to hold on.”
Meadow Dance is owned by Right Time Racing III, LLC and Madaket Stables LLC., who purchased her for $110,000 at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale. She was bred in Kentucky by William Humphries.
