The bay juvenile is one of eight stakes winners this year for Maximus Mischief. With 16 stakes horses to date in 2024, Maximus Mischief is second only to fellow Spendthrift stallion Omaha Beach on the Second-Crop sire list.
Icona Mama, who was beaten less than a length in the Pocahantas S. (G3) in late September at Churchill Downs, was the prohibitive favorite in the six-furlong Shamrock Rose. She broke alertly from the gate and dueled between horses through the first quarter-mile. Racing on the outside of Query around the bend, Icona Mama took the lead effortlessly coming into the stretch, then quickly drew away under a hand ride to finish up in 1:10.24 on a fast track.
Icona Mama now sports a record of 2-2-1 from five starts, with earnings of $147,475 for owner DeSales 85 LLC. The winner was bred by J. Patrick Morell and Tanya Lobsiger.
