Maximus Mischief’s Glengarry stays perfect with Bowman Mill S. victory
October 29, 2023
Glengarry earned his third win in as many starts Saturday at Keeneland with a hard-fought victory in the $200,000 Bowman Mill S.
The 2-year-old colt topped a fantastic week for Maximus Mischief that also saw the leading First-Crop sire tally five maiden winners and one allowance winner.
Glengarry, who had been on the lead at every point of call in his two prior starts, sat just behind the very speedy Cowes, who flew through a half-mile in :45.23. Jockey Luis Saez called on Glengarry turning for home, and the gray/roan colt responded strongly, wresting the lead from the pacesetter with a furlong to run, then holding off Omaha Beach’s Normandy Beach by a half-length.
The final time for the six furlongs on a fast track was 1:11.52.
“It was a pretty quick decision we had to make,” Saez said. “We (all) know this horse has been running on the lead, and he’s fast. He broke from there sharp, and we had a little pressure, but we had to make a quick decision and take a little hold. I put him right there outside, and he responded perfectly.”
One of two stakes winners for his leading freshman sire, Glengarry is out of a L. A. Way, who is a half-sister to a pair of black-type placers. L. A. Way foaled a full sister to Glengarry this spring.
Glengarry has earned $177,501 in his three wins for Aaron Kennedy, Toby Joseph and Doug Anderson. He was bred by Highpoint Bloodstock.
