Maximus Mischief’s Baby Max comes up big in stakes unveiling
January 19, 2025
Baby Max surged to the front turning for home en route to an authoritative victory in the $125,000 Leonatus S. Saturday evening at Turfway Park.
The 3-year-old Maximus Mischief colt was making his stakes debut in the one-mile race over the synthetic surface. Longshot Shan went to the front at the break, with Baby Max tracking in third along the rail. Shan led by about four lengths at the midway point, but Baby Max began to cut into that margin, and by the time he turned for home, had taken the lead. He rolled home from there, winning by 2 ½-lengths in a hand ride over Chunk of Gold.
Baby Max has now earned $147,151 and sports a record of 2-1-0 in four starts for owner J S Stables LLC. The bay colt was bred by Westbrook Stables LLC.
Maximus Mischief was a top-five Second-Crop sire of 2024 with over $6 million in progeny earnings, nine stakes winner and 17 stakes horses.
