Maximus Mischief leads First-Crop list with half-dozen winners

Velvet Vixen’s front-running debut win on July 19 at Parx put Maximus Mischief atop the First-Crop Sire list with six winners, all coming in maiden special weight races.

Velvet Vixen shot to the lead right at the break of Wednesday’s 4 ½-furlong contest and led the field through a quarter-mile in :22.68. She was challenged late in the stretch by Peach Tea and dug in gamely to win by a neck.

The winner is trained by Cathal Lynch for Charles Biggs, who purchased the bay filly out of the 2023 OBS Spring 2-year-olds sale. Velvet Vixen was bred in Kentucky by Hugh Moore and is out of Deceive, who is a half-sister to millionaire and multiple graded stakes winner Gone Astray. Her third dam is champion Inside Information.
