Maximus Mischief continues his roll in G2 Remsen S.
December 3, 2018
Following two blowout wins in maiden and allowance company, Maximus Mischief took the step up into stakes company in the Dec. 1 Remsen S. (G2) and came away with another outstanding performance, drawing off to win by 2 1/4-lengths.
The undefeated Into Mischief colt has the two highest Beyer Speed Figures – 98 and 97 – for any 2-year-old this year. Maximus Mischief is Into Mischief’s 28th black type winner this year, which leads all active North American sires.
Stretching out beyond seven furlongs in the 1 1/8-mile Remsen, Maximus Mischief went head-to-head with longshot Gladiator King through the first half-mile in :50.67. Gladiator King faded on the turn, and Tax took up the chase and was nearly on even terms entering the stretch, but Maximus Mischief easily shook him off and finished strongly to get the distance in 1:51.34.
“He runs the turns really well and he swaps leads really good so that’s generally where he gets the drop on them,” said trainer Robert Reid, Jr. “The first thing Frank [Pennington] said when he came off the horse was that when he went into the first turn, [Maximus Mischief] pricked his ears and settled down–and he hadn’t had too many horses around him early in his career–that he wasn’t worried about the horses inside or outside of him, so that’s a really good sign.”
Maximus Mischief has now banked $192,100 in three starts for Cash is King LLC and LC Racing.
