Malibu Moon filly takes Flashy Lady S. in added-money debut
September 30, 2019
Mt. Brave made her first foray into stakes company a winning one on Sunday evening when the 3-year-old Malibu Moon filly led from start to finish of the $50,000 Flashy Lady S. at Remington Park (VIDEO).
Making the lead on her own, Rafael Santana, Jr. guided the bay filly through very quick splits of :21.81 and :44.65, then repelled a stern challenge by Okie Diva in mid-stretch to win by two lengths in 1:08.54 for the six furlongs, missing the track record by a half-second.
Prior to Sunday’s win, Mt. Brave won her maiden special weight debut at Churchill Downs in late May and an allowance race at Ellis Park a month ago. She’s now earned $117,598 for Stonestreet Stables (also her breeder) and Peter Leidel.
Mt. Brave is a daughter of Wild Gams, winner of seven stakes, three of the graded events, and nearly $1.2 million.
Mt. Brave is Malibu Moon’s third stakes winner this week, coming one day after Shimmering Aspen won the Delaware Distaff and a week after Come Dancing took the Ballerina S. (G2) at Belmont Park. Malibu Moon now has 10 stakes winners this year, while his progeny earnings have topped the $7 million mark.
