Malibu Moon filly commands $500,000 at F-T Midlantic
May 23, 2016
Hip 112, a 2-year-old filly by Malibu Moon, topped a big day for her sire Monday, bringing $500,000 from prominent bloodstock agent Steve Young during the first session of the annual Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale in Timonium, Maryland.
The bay filly zipped and impressive quarter in 21 3/5 seconds – marking the co-fastest time at the distance on the day. Bred by Smith Farm & Stable, she proved to be among the most popular horses being offered Monday, selling as one of only three horses to fetch half a million dollars.
Malibu Moon was the only stallion on Monday that was represented by multiple juveniles among the top dozen by sale price – and he had three in that group. Hip 173 was the fifth highest colt sold on day 1 after bringing a final bid of $275,000 from buyer Hillwood Stable LLC.
Another filly by Malibu Moon concluded the big session for the leading sire. Hip 163 sold to East Coast trainer George Weaver as agent for $200,000.
More 2-year-olds by Malibu Moon are set to sell at Tuesday’s second and final session, including Hips 332, 390, and 396.
