Malibu Moon colt sparkles in stakes debut
July 14, 2018
Apalachee Bay turned in a stellar effort in his stakes debut Saturday afternoon at Northlands Park, rolling to a five-length win in the $50,000 Count Lathum H. for 3-year-olds (VIDEO).
After breaking his maiden by six lengths on June 17, Apalachee Bay went off the favorite in the Lathum and did not disappoint. Away on top, he shook off early pressure in the first half-mile and drew away smartly to win easily in 1:46.46 for the 1 1/16-miles in a “good” main track.
Apalachee Bay is owned by Peter Redekop Ltd. and was bred in Kentucky by Regis Farms, LP. The bay colt is the first foal out of Golden Mystery, winner of the Hurricane Bertie S. (G3) and two other listed races.
With six stakes winners and more than $5.3 million in progeny earnings to date this year, Malibu Moon ranks in the top 10 on the General Sire list, as he has in three of the past five years.
