Malibu Moon colt shines in debut
June 29, 2017
Hollywood Star lived up to his name in first lifetime start Wednesday at Churchill Downs, coming from well off the pace to take the six-furlong long 2-year-old maiden special weight by a half-length and become the latest TDN Rising Star.
The dark bay colt is Malibu Moon’s second TDN Rising Star, along with the 3-year-old colt Emancipation, who is a full brother to Malibu Moon’s 2014 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Orb. Hollywood Star is Malibu Moon’s 14th lifetime TDN Rising Star.
After a rough start, Hollywood Star settled mid-pack before commencing his move with three furlongs to go. He came five-wide into the stretch and powered to the lead with an eighth-mile to run, comfortably holding off Bourbon Resolution for the win in a very professional-looking performance (VIDEO).
Hollywood Star was bred in Kentucky by George Krikorian, who raced the winner’s dam, Hollywood Story, a two-time Grade 1 winner of $1,171,105. Hollywood Star sold to her owner Albaugh Stable for $550,000 at the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
