Malibu Moon: 10 stakes winners in ’09
September 23, 2009
Leading sire Malibu Moon received his tenth stakes winner of the year on Sept. 23rd when his 3-year-old daughter Malibu Prayer strolled to a one-sided 6 ¾-length win as the odds-on choice in the featured $64,000 Cat Chat S. at Belmont Park.
Malibu Prayer dictated an honest pace before exuding her class in the stretch, running away from her rivals to impressively gain her first stakes victory. The final time for a mile was a swift one – 1:33.90.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, the grand-looking bay filly had previously finished second in top graded stakes in the Northeast in her last three starts, including the Mother Goose (G1), Delaware Oaks (G2) and Monmouth Oaks (G3). She has earned $248,800 for her breeder and owner Edward P. Evans.
Now with 10 stakes winners to date, Malibu Moon continues to be A.P. Indy’s leading son at stud by stakes winners four years running.
