May 31, 2022
Make Mischief took the lead at the top of the Belmont stretch and rolled to a four-length victory in the $200,000 Critical Eye S. on Memorial Day at Big Sandy.
The victory was the second stakes win for 4-year-old Into Mischief filly, who has also placed in a quartet of graded stakes.
Make Mischief came out of the gate well and pressed pacesetter Mashnee Girl through a quarter in :23.26 and a half-mile in :46.40. When jockey Dylan Davis set her loose outside the quarter-mile mark, she powered past Mashnee Girl with ease and drew off in the stretch to win geared down in 1:35.71 for the mile on a fast track.
“I’m glad the weather was good today,” said Shane Tripp, assistant to trainer Mark Casse. “[Last time in the May 8 Ruffian S.] she didn’t care for the [muddy] racetrack, but today I felt like she was going to run well. She shows up every day and is so honest. She’s a real blessing to be around.”
Make Mischief, owned by Gary Barber, is 6-4-3 in 18 starts and has earned $607,150. Bred by Avanti Stable, Make Mischief is a granddaughter of Grade 3 winner England’s Rose and is one of 11 stakes winners this year for her sire.
