Lord Nelson colt reaches $460,000 Thursday at Keeneland

Lord Nelson had his best result of the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling sale Thursday when a colt from the first crop of the Spendthrift stallion brought a top bid of $460,000.

Offered by Mulholland Springs, agent, hip No. 1136 went to Frank Fletcher Racing/Ten Strike.

The bay colt is the fourth foal out of Reina Maria, who is the dam of Into Mischief’s Maximus Mischief, winner of the 2018 Remsen S. (G2) and 2019 Holy Bull S. (G2).

Lord Nelson’s yearlings sold at auction in 2020 have averaged $130,118, more than six times his stud fee and among the top 10 of all First-Crop sires. He has an additional 20 lots remaining in the sale, which runs through Sept. 25.
