October 2, 2021
Lord Nelson’s newest First-Crop winner came Saturday in a Churchill Downs maiden special weight race when the 2-year-old colt Trafalgar closed from well off the pace to register a 2 ¼-length victory.
The dark bay colt was ninth at the half-way point of the one-mile race before making a five-wide rally on the turn and into the stretch. He wore down the pacesetting Unpredictable Bay in the final sixteenth to wrap up the distance in a solid 1:35.61 on a fast main track.
Trafalgar is owned by Columbine Stable LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall. Out of Southern Drifter, Trafalgar is from the family of Grade 2 winner Evansville Slew. Southern Drifter had a Jimmy Creed colt this year.
Spendthrift recently announced that multiple Grade 1 winner Lord Nelson will stand the 2022 season for $10,000 S&N.
