Let Them Watch a dominating first stakes winner for Maximus Mischief
August 14, 2023
Maximus Mischief padded his lead at the top of the First-Crop sire list on Sunday when Let Them Watch became his first stakes winner with a comfortable victory in the $65,000 Sharp Susan S. at Gulfstream Park.
The Spendthrift stallion also got his second black type horse later in the day when Raging Torrent placed in the Best Pal S. (G3) at Del Mar. Maximus Mischief leads the First-Crop list with 12 winners, 14 wins, and $702,800 in progeny earnings.
Let Them Watch, who won her July 7 debut by a half-dozen lengths, was the odds-on favorite in Sunday’s six-furlong race, and the 2-year old filly lived up to her odds. She broke alertly and pressed Avellino before cruising to the lead midway on the turn. She opened up a five-length lead in upper stretch and was never seriously threatened to the wire.
“When I was working her, I thought she didn’t need to be on the lead,” jockey Hector Diaz said. “But she has so much speed, that she gets it. She got a little tired late because we moved a little early. I think she’s going to keep improving.”
Let Them Watch is now 2-for-2 and has earned $97,220 for owner Case Chambers.
Bred by Tracy Pinchin, the bay filly is out of My Rolex, dam of stakes winner It’s High Time and a sister to Grade 1 winner Black Seventeen.
