Laugh Now first winner for champion Vino Rosso
January 1, 1970
Vino Rosso was represented by his first winner on May 15 at Horseshoe Indianapolis when the 2-year-old colt Laugh Now scored a two-length victory in a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight affair over the main track (WATCH RACE).
Laugh Now and Untroubled went to the lead as a team at the break, but Laugh Now shook off his competition in the first furlong and opened up by two lengths going into the turn. He kept to task and maintained that advantage all the way to the wire, finishing up in :52.90 on a fast track.
The winner is owned by the partnership of Hayden Noriega, Mark Arnold, 47 Roses LLC and Selima Holdings and was bred by BF Bloodstock.
Two days prior to Laugh Now’s win, Vino Rosso got his first stakes horse when Zaino placed in the $100,000 Royal Palm Juvenile S. at Gulfstream Park, a race that serves as the local qualifier for the prestigious Royal Ascot meet in Great Britain.
Vino Rosso was named the Champion Older Male following his brilliant 2019 campaign that included a blowout win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and a victory in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita S. (G1). He also won the Wood Memorial S. (G2) at three and retired to Spendthrift with $4,803,125 in career earnings.
Vino Rosso stands the 2023 season for $15,000 live foal.
