Jimmy Creed’s X Clown gets second stakes win of ’19
December 30, 2019
Two-year-old X Clown wrapped up a very successful 2019 on Dec. 19 with his second stakes win of the year in the $100,000 Louisiana Futurity at Fair Grounds (VIDEO).
Worse than second only once over six starts, X Clown has earned $141,980 for Set-Hut LLC. He won the Evangeline Downs Prince S. in August and was also twice stakes-placed during the campaign.
Out of the gate very well in the six-furlong Futurity, X Clown was part of a trio of runners battling for the lead down the backstretch. Shuffled back slightly on the turn, he rallied three-wide to take the lead in upper stretch, then outran Reach the Circle to win by a neck in 1:13.88 on a good main track.
“I was closer than I wanted to be,” jockey Tyler Woodley said. “I wanted to be a couple of lengths off the lead but at the top of the stretch things got a little tight. I had to use a little horse to tip him out. I’m really proud of this horse and can’t thank the guys that take care of him enough.”
Trained by Jerry Delhomme, X Clown was bred by Michael and Cynthia Villar. Out of Evening Muse, X Clown is from the same family as multiple graded stakes winner Go Go.
