He drifted wide coming into the stretch, allowing Dark Vintage to take the lead. Slider righted himself and set his sights on the leader, running him down and pulling clear late to stop the timer in :55.96 on the firm turf.
“We switched him to the grass today because we’re hoping to run in the [Grade I, $1 million Breeders’ Cup] Juvenile Turf Sprint,” said winning trainer John Sadler. “I think what happened there turning for home was a combination of being a little green and being on the turf. To stay collected the way he did and come back and get that horse, that was impressive.”
Slider has two wins and a second in three starts and has earned $125,600 for Hall Racing LLC, Pearl Racing and West Point Thoroughbreds.
