Jimmy Creed 2YO takes tough Santa Anita MdSpWt
December 26, 2017
Kanthaka’s stretch rally earned the Jimmy Creed 2-year-old colt a hard-fought neck victory in a seven-furlong maiden special weight contest during the opening day of the Santa Anita Park meet on Dec. 26 (VIDEO).
The colt, bred by Spendthrift Farm, is the 20th winner overall from Jimmy Creed’s first crop. He is one of only three 2017 freshman sires standing in North America to achieve the milestone.
Kanthaka, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer for West Point Thoroughbreds, was in midpack before splitting horses coming into the stretch, then ran down Camby late for the win. The victory was worth $32,400.
West Point purchased Kanthaka for $140,000 out of the Barretts March 2-year-olds in training sale. The chestnut colt is the first foal out of Sliced Bread, who is a half-sister to a pair of stakes winners.
