Jaywalk first black type winner for Cross Traffic
August 22, 2018
Jaywalk powered past Congrats Gal in the final furlong to score by 1 1/2-lengths in the White Clay Creek S. at Delaware Park on Aug. 22, becoming the first black type stakes winner for Spendthrift Farm’s freshman sire Cross Traffic.
Jaywalk, who broke her maiden by an impressive 7 1/2-lengths on July 24 at Parx, has now bankrolled $64,200 for co-owners D. J. Stable LLC and Cash is King LLC.
After a good break, Jaywalk was allowed to settle several lengths from the front-running Congrats Gal, the 4-5 favorite. Going along evenly, she started her move with about a quarter-mile to run. Congrats Gal still had a three-length lead in mid-stretch, but Jaywalk was cutting into the margin with every stride and rolled to the lead in hand to win going away.
Jaywalk was second behind ‘TDN Rising Star’ and subsequent Schuylerville S. (G3) runner-up Nonna Madeline in her June 23 debut. The gray filly, a $190,000 buy at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling sale, is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner and graded placed Danzatrice. Jaywalk’s third dam is La Paz, who produced multiple graded stakes winner Mission Impazible and graded stakes winners Forest Camp and Spanish Empire.
Cross Traffic is the leading First-Crop Sire of winners with nine to date. Among them are the stakes-placed Raising the Ante, as well as restricted stakes winners Dame Plata and Dancin Shoes.
