Irish Maxima re-rallies for debut MdSpWt win
January 1, 1970
The nation’s leading First-Crop sire Maximus Mischief got his 14th winner on Aug. 22 when Irish Maxima dug in gamely to win her debut by 2 ¾-lengths at Parx.
The 2-year-old filly flew out of the gate and opened up a four-length lead on the backstretch and still had a comfortable lead midway on the turn. She drifted out coming into the lane and nearly lost the lead in midstretch before finding a late gear to win the 5 ½-furlong contest going away.
The winner races for Irish Three Racing LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Pillar Property Services Inc. Irish Maxima’s stakes-winning dam Palace Pier has produced 10 winners from as many foals to race. Palace Pier foaled a colt by Thousand Words this year.
In addition to leading the First-Crop list by winners, Maximus Mischief also tops the list by progeny earnings, wins, and is tied for the top spot by black type winners and graded stakes horses.
