Into Mischief’s Taraz brilliant in stakes debut
December 21, 2019
Taraz’s 11 ¼-length blowout win in Saturday’s $75,000 Letellier Memorial S. at Fair Grounds was the second dominating performance in as many starts for the 2-year-old Into Mischief filly. The bay juvenile broke her maiden by 7 ½-lengths Nov. 14 at Churchill Downs and was named a TDN Rising Star.
Taraz went right to the front in Saturday’s six-furlong contest. Getting the first quarter-mile in :22 seconds flat and the half in :46.02, she dispatched the field at the top of the stretch and coast past the wire under Florent Geroux in 1:10.83 on a sloppy track (VIDEO).
Taraz is owned by her breeder Juddmonte Farms and is trained by Brad Cox.
The second foal out of Silk Route, Taraz’s second dam is European stakes winner and Group 1-placed Jibe. Silk Route produced a full brother to Taraz last year. This is also the family of European champions Commander in Chief (GB) and Warning (GB); and Group 1 winner Full Mast (Mizzen Mast).
Taraz is Into Mischief’s 23rd stakes winner this year and pushed his progeny earnings to a North American-best $18.6 million.
