May 18, 2024
Pyrenees surged past Kingsbarns in the final strides to win Friday’s $250,000 Pimlico Special (G3) in a career-best effort for 4-year-old Into Mischief colt.
The victory was a special one for the superstar sire, giving Into Mischief a landmark 150 career black type winners. It is also his 73rd graded black type winner to date.
Pyrenees is trained by red-hot Cherie DeVaux for Bonnie Baskin and Adam Corndorf’s Blue Heaven Farm, who also bred the bay colt.
Pyrenees was riding a three-race winning streak coming into the historic contest, but have never started in a stakes. The pace was slow early, with Harlocap getting a half-mile in :50.26, with Pyrenees stalking in fourth, just two lengths off the lead. He shifted to the outside just before entering the stretch, then engaged Kingsbarns inside the final furlong and eventually got the better of his foe, winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:57.73 on a fast track.
With the win, Pyrenees is 4-1-1 in eight starts and has earned $321,716.
Pedigree Notes from the TDN:
