This year’s Breeders’ Cup is also at the Southern California track.
Lane Way, a 6-year-old son of Into Mischief, won the Clockers Corner S. in January at Santa Anita as well. He is the 10 graded stakes winner this year for Into Mischief, and the victory pushed the four-time champion sire past the $20 million mark in progeny earnings with three months still to go in 2023.
After a bit of scrambled beginning, Lane Way made his way between horses and was second only to Noble Reflection as they entered the turn. Holding his spot around the bend, Lane Way forged past Noble Reflection with less than a furlong to go, then held off Bran (FR) to win by a half-length in 1:14.47 for the 6 ½-furlongs on a “good” turf course.
“He is just a really nice horse,” said winning trainer Richard Mandella. “We gave him a good rest. Kind of planned to get him at his best at this time of year and it worked. It doesn’t always, but it worked this time.”
Lane Way is a very steady 5-6-5 in 19 lifetime starts and has earned $490,560 . He was bred in Kentucky by GWTW Horses LLC.
