Into Mischief’s Interpolate takes Ruthless for first stakes win
February 5, 2023
Interpolate’s impressive stretch run carried the 3-year-old Into Mischief filly into the winner’s circle for the $100,000 Ruthless S. on Feb. 5 at Aqueduct.
After a troubled trip in the Jan. 3 Parx Futurity, Interpolate got a clean run to earn her first stakes victory on Sunday. She settled nicely away from the gate and was just a couple of lengths from the lead after a quarter-mile in :24.53. She began a three-wide move on the turn and took the lead with a quarter-mile to run. A sterling stretch run earned her a 2 ½-length victory with a time of 1:26.44 for the seven furlongs on a fast track.
“She’s always shown a lot of potential in the mornings and it’s one of those things with young horses where she’s developed week-to-week and month-to-month mentally,” trainer Chad Brown said. “Eric (Cancel) allowed her to really put her development all together today by allowing her to run how she wanted. I’m very proud of her.”
Brown said Interpolate is more likely to cut back to six furlongs in the $100,000 Cicada Stakes on March 18.
The bay filly, owned by Klaravich Stables Inc., has won two of her four starts and earned $117,750. She was bred in Kentucky by Capital Bloodstock and hails from the family of multiple Grade 1 winner Strategic Maneuver.
Interpolate is Into Mischief’s fourth stakes winner of the weekend, coming a day after Atone won the Pegasus World Cup Turf Inv. (G1), Rocket Can took the Holy Bull S. (G3), General Jim won the Swale S. (G3), and Newgate scored in the Robert B. Lewis S. (G3).
