Into Mischief’s Gerrymander goes gate-to-wire for first stakes win
November 6, 2021
Gerrymander proved stakes-worthy with a front-running score in Friday’s $150,000 Tempted S. at Belmont Park, holding off a stiff challenge in the stretch from Magic Circle to win the one-mile race for 2-year-old fillies by a half-length.
Gerrymander had the lead the entire trip, with Magic Circle her closest pursuer all the way. Magic Circle got within a head in midstretch, when Gerrymander found more to edge clear in the final furlong.
The final time was 1:38.13 on the fast main track.
Gerrymander’s first stakes start came in last month’s Frizette S. (G1), where she finished second to Echo Zulu, the likely 2-year-old champion filly following her dominating score in Friday’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Gerrymander, owned by Klaravich Stables, is 2-2-0 in four starts and has earned $235,500. She was bred by Town & Country Horse Farms and Pollock Farm and is a half-sister to Suburban H. (G2) winner Lone Rock.
Gerrymander is the 25th stakes winner this year for Into Mischief, whose progeny earnings of $21.4 million in 2021 is more than $6 million than any other sire in North America.
