Into Mischief’s Cool Arrow prevails in Smile Sprint S. (G3)
September 6, 2020
Cool Arrow ran down Krsto Skye in deep stretch to win the Smile Sprint S. (G3) by a half-length at Gulfstream Park, the second of three graded stakes winners on the day for Into Mischief, topped of course by Authentic’s victory in the Kentucky Derby (G1).
Cool Arrow was a four-time stakes winner coming into the Smile, but had never won a graded race. That all changed Saturday when the 6-year-old out-finished Krysto Skye, who had taken the lead with ease midway on the turn. Krsto Skye was in the clear with a furlong to run, but Cool Arrow was closing quickly and hit the wire first, getting the six furlongs in a swift 1:08.82, less than a second off the track record.
“He broke good and got perfect position. I waited to ask him at the quarter-pole. He responded in the stretch and got there,” jockey Leonel Reyes said.
The winner races for My Purple Haze Stables and was bred in Kentucky by H. Allen Poindexter. His record now stands at 10-4-1 in 26 starts, with earnings of $594,423.
