Into Mischief’s Citizen Bull named Eclipse Award Finalist

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Citizen Bull was named as one of three Eclipse Award finalists in the 2-year-old Male category. The awards will be announced at the ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Joining Citizen Bull as finalists are Gaming and Chancer McPatrick, both of whom Citizen Bull defeated in the Breeders’ Cup on Nov. 1.

Prior to his Breeders’ Cup victory, Citizen Bull won the American Pharoah S. (G1) at Santa Anita Park and was third in the Del Mar Futurity (G1). Overall, the bay colt has won three of four starts and earned $1,301,000.

Citizen Bull has not started since the Breeders’ Cup, but has been working steadily for his 2025 debut. According to his trainer Bob Baffert, Citizen Bull will make his first start of the year in the Feb. 1 Robert B. Lewis S. (G3), also at Santa Anita Park.

Owned by SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Stonestreet Stables LLC, Dianne Bashor, Determined Stables, Robert E. Masterson, Tom J. Ryan, Waves Edge Capital LLC & Catherine Donovan, Citizen Bull currently sits atop the Road to the Kentucky Derby points challenge with 40 by virtue of his two Grade 1 wins.

Citizen Bull was one of Into Mischief’s five Grade 1 winners last year. Into Mischief topped the General Sire list for the sixth consecutive year in 2024 with an all-time record of $35,429,463 in progeny earnings.
