Into Mischief becomes Spendthrift’s first champion General Sire since Seattle Slew

Into Mischief’s best year at stud to date finished with the Spendthrift stallion atop both the General Sire and the 2-year-old sire lists for 2019, including a record-setting 221 individual winners of an incredible 346 races.
He became Spendthrift’s first champion General Sire in 35 years since Seattle Slew in 1984.
Into Mischief also led all sires by black type horses, with 53, Grade 1 horses, with nine, and by progeny earnings with $19,178,293.
Among his 23 black type winners were Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) winner Covfefe, who is an Eclipse Award finalist for both 3-year-old Filly and Female Sprinter honors. The winners will be announced Jan. 23 at Gulfstream Park.
Into Mischief led nearly every category on the 2019 2-year-old sire list. With six black type winners, five Grade 1 horses, and 41 winners, his juveniles amassed $3,468,791 in earnings. He also had seven TDN ‘Rising Stars’, the most for any sire last year.
In the sales ring, Into Mischief’s yearlings averaged, $332,146 and his 2-year-olds $375,852, including the highest-priced 2-year-old filly of the year, at $1.8 million.
Predictably, Into Mischief was once again one of the most popular North American stallions in 2019, breeding 241 mares. He is standing this year for $175,000, live foal.
