Into Mischief: TDN Rising Stars coast to coast
August 1, 2022
Champion sire Into Mischief had two dynamic TDN Rising Stars over the final weekend of July, with Newgate earning the tag at Del Mar on Saturday, and Prank gaining the honor Sunday at Saratoga.
The duo are the 32nd and 33rd Rising Stars for their sire, turning in impressive performances in what was the debut for each of the 2-year-olds.
Newgate, trained by Bob Baffert for a large partnership known as The Avengers. Purchased during the opening session of last year’s Keeneland September sale for $850,000, Newgate laid down some very fast fractions of :21.78 and :44.90 before finishing up a 3 ½-length winner in 1:03.89 for the 5 ½-furlongs.
Newgate was bred in Kentucky by Town & Country Horse Farms, LLC. Out of Majestic Presence, Newgate has a year-younger full sister, and a foal half-brother by Spendthrift stallion Authentic.
Prank made her highly-anticipated debut in a 5 ½-furlong race as well, and did not disappoint as she rolled home a 9 ¾-length winner. Her time of 1:03.94, also on a fast track, came as she was geared down in the final sixteenth.
Prank, who sold for $500,000 to Solis/Litt at the 2021 Keeneland September sale, is out of Callingmissbrown and is a half-sister to this year’s Belmont S. (G1) winner Mo Donegal. The bay filly was bred in Kentucky by Ashview Farm and Colts Neck Stables and is owned by StarLadies Racing, LNJ Foxwoods and Gainesway Stable.
