Into Mischief surpasses $100 million milestone
August 21, 2021
Spendthrift Farm’s two-time champion sire Into Mischief became just one of nine active North American sires to top $100,000,000 in progeny earnings on Aug. 21.
While he hit the career milestone on a day with no stakes winners, 2021 has been a phenomenal year for the son of Harlan’s Holiday who now has 10 crops of racing age.
After topping the General Sire list the past two years, he leads in virtually every category again this year, with sights on last year’s record-setting earnings mark of $22,104,773.
This year’s numbers include 50 black type horses, 20 above any other stallion, and 22 black type winners. His 182 winners to date is 50 clear of his nearest pursuer. He has a trio of Grade 1 winners: Mandaloun in the Haskell Inv., Gamine in the Derby City Distaff, and Mischevious Alex in the Carter.
One year after Authentic won the 2020 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) on his way to Horse of the Year honors, Into Mischief is again the leading sire of 3-year-olds in 2021, with colts such as the Mandaloun, Life Is Good and Fulsome. The latter is entered in Tuesday’s $300,000 Smarty Jones S. (G3).
With 98 stakes winners to date, he will soon become the eighth active sire to reach triple digits. From humble beginning of standing for $12,500 in 2009, Into Mischief is now the pre-eminent sire in North America at $225,000 for 2021.
