Into Mischief leads 2024 General Sire list with record-shattering year
January 2, 2025
For the sixth straight year, Into Mischief topped the General Sire list in 2024, crushing his own progeny earnings mark with $35,426,144, far ahead of the 2024 runner-up Gun Runner, who was at $22.4 million.
Into Mischief’s previous record was $28,568,753 in 2022.
The Spendthrift stallion has led the General Sire list for the past six years, which is topped only by Bold Ruler’s seven from 1963-69 in the modern era.
Into Mischief also led nearly every statistical category last year. Of his 17 graded stakes winners, five of them won Grade 1 races: Citizen Bull, Gina Romantica, Leslie’s Rose, Laurel River and Newgate.
Citizen Bull, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), is likely to be named champion 2-year-old male at this month’s Eclipse Awards.
Into Mischief had a remarkable 36 stakes winner throughout the year, more than twice as many as any other sire, while his 253 individual winners is 60 ahead of his son Goldencents, who had the second-most last year.
Into Mischief was also the leading sire of 3-year-olds by stakes winners, with 11, graded stakes winners (6) and winners (76). And he topped the 2-year-old sire list with nearly $4 million in progeny earnings and six black-type winners.
Now 20 years old, Into Mischief remains very active in the breeding shed, covering 193 mares in 2024. His fee for 2025 is $250,000 live foal.
