Into Mischief filly hammers for $940K at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga opener
August 10, 2021
The August 9-10 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling sale got off to a bang Monday for Into Mischief when hip No. 71 sold for $940,000, the second most expensive filly of the session and third highest price overall.
The filly was consigned by Mulholland Springs and Jay and Beth Young and purchased by Christina Helm and Gary Stevens on behalf of David Wilson.
“I have been hired to buy a few horses for Mr. David Wilson a long-time riding client that I had for years,” said Stevens. “He has hired me to pick some horses out. This Into Mischief filly reminded me exactly of Beholder. I fell in love with her. And I said we need this filly and we got her.”
The bay filly is out of the Grade 2-placed mare Curlina. Her lone foal to race placed in both the Beaumont S. (G2) and Monmouth Oaks (G3).
“We still have the mare,” Martha Jane Mulholland said. “We have a full brother on the ground and she is in foal to Into Mischief and she is booked to Into Mischief next year. It works.”
Stevens explained the filly would be headed to Florida. “I talked to Randy Bradshaw prior to the sale. I said, ‘I am looking at hip 71, this Into Mischief filly, would you go look at her? It might be a pinhook, might be anything, but I’m sending her to you.’ I have known Randy forever. She is going to Randy and we will see what happens.”
With five lots sold during Monday’s opener, Into Mischief averaged $465,000
