Into Mischief filly garners first stakes win

Sly Beauty overcame trouble on the backstretch to rally to a half-length win in the $100,000 Star Shoot S. at Woodbine on Saturday, the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old Into Mischief filly.

Owned by her breeder Debby Oxley, Sly Beauty was making just her fifth lifetime start in the six-furlong affair on the synthetic surface. Breaking very well from the rail, Sly Beauty was outsprinted for the lead by Closer Still (IRE). Down the backstretch, Sly Beauty had to take up sharply when Closer Still cut in front of her, which caused her to drop about three lengths back going around the turn.

Eurico Rosa Da Silva guided Sly Beauty three wide into the stretch, where she ran down Closer Still and Dream It Is to get to the wire in a very quick 1:10.03.

“I gave her a big warm up and the last quarter was tough,” said Da Silva. “She was running off with me and I was very close to clipping a heel there one time. Finally, in the turn she gave me a little break and when I swung outside she just took off from there. She ran a big race.”

Sly Beauty is now 2-0-0 in five starts and has banked $80,761. The regally-bred filly is out of graded stakes-placed Vision of Beauty, who is a half-sister to 2-year-old champion War Pass and Grade 1 winner Oath.

Into Mischief is among the leading General Sires and Sires of 3-year-olds this year, with eight stakes winners and more than $5 million in progeny earnings to date.
