Into Mischief filly a TDN Rising Star in flashy Del Mar debut
July 19, 2017
Just a Smidge won a battle of the grays in her racing debut Wednesday at Del Mar, with the 2-year-old Into Mischief filly coming out on top by 1 ½-lengths over Tyfosha while earning a very good Beyer Speed Figure of 80, one of the top-10 numbers for 2-year-olds in 2017.
The gray speedster also was named a TDN Rising Star after she completed the five furlongs in :58.12 for owner Debbi Lanni and trainer Bob Baffert (VIDEO).
“I am actually on a cruise between Finland and Denmark,” Lanni said by phone after the race.” But we were well-represented there in the winner’s circle by my son Patrick. I’m so excited and looking forward to her future and thanks to Bob for finding her.”
Baffert picked out Just a Smidge from the May Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale, where she brought a winning bid of $425,000.
Into Mischief has 101 winners to date this year, one of only five active North American stallions with at least 100. He also ranks in the top 10 on the General Sire List by black type winners and black type horses.
