Into Champagne kicks off 2024 with Glitter Woman S. victory
January 7, 2024
Into Mischief’s 3-year-old filly Into Champagne made her first start of the new year a winning one with a victory in the $100,000 Glitter Woman S. Jan. 7 at Gulfstream Park.
The bay filly, whose only prior start was a maiden special weight victory in June, has now earned $130,360 for owners Six Column Stables, LLC, Randall L. Bloch, Jim Gladden, Mike Davis & Michael Steele. She is the second stakes winner of 2024 for Into Mischief.
As she did in her maiden win, Into Champagne settled after the break and stalked the pace through the first half-mile. She then split horses at the top of the stretch and took command, winning by 1 ¼-lengths in 1:11.58 for the six furlongs over the sloppy going.
“I’m all about developing horses,” said trainer Ian Wilkes. “I like to use riders who’ll stay with the horse. Julien [Leparoux] was quite happy and wanted to stay with her, and he was willing to come down, so that was the thing. It’s all about developing horses and trying to win the right races.”
The winner was bred by Robert and Lawana Low and sold to her owners for $300,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale. The Kentucky-bred hails from the family of Grade 1 winner Pool Land and Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Very Subtle.
