Haulin Ice scorches foes in Gulfstream Park’s Azalea S.
July 14, 2024
Coal Front’s 3-year-old filly Haulin Ice got her first stakes win in stunning fashion, rolling to a 9 ½-length victory in the $95,000 Azalea S. Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
Haulin Ice had been second in both her prior stakes starts, including most recently on June 1 when she was second to Miuccia in the Game Face S. at Gulfstream.
Facing that foe, and six others in Saturday’s seven-furlong contest, Haulin Ice was fifth, about four lengths off the lead, down the backstretch. She kicked into gear going into the turn and rolled by the field to take the lead turning for home. Leaving Miuccia and the rest in her wake, she poured in on in the stretch to stop the timer in 1:22.63 on a fast main track.
Haulin Ice is owned by C2 Racing Stable LLC, Paul Braverman, Miller Racing LLC and Timothy Pinch. Saturday’s win upped her earnings to $353,300 and record to an excellent 4-3-0 in seven starts.
The winner was bred by Eugenia Thompson-Benight. The gray filly’s dam She’s Smoke has a yearling full sister to Haulin Ice.
Coal Front, a top-10 Second-Crop sire of 2024, now has four stakes winners. His 3-year-old filly Xtreme Diva, winner of the $150,000 Dixie Belle S. at Oaklawn, was a 10-length winner of an open handicap race on Saturday as well. Coal Front stood the 2024 season for $5,000 live foal.
