Hard Spirits a rousing debut winner for Mor Spirit

Hard Spirits drew off smartly in the final furlong to break her maiden at first asking on Aug. 21 in a six-furlong maiden special weight contest at Prairie Meadows (WATCH RACE).
The 2-year-old filly is the fifth winner from Mor Spirit’s first crop, all of which have come in maiden special races.
Hard Spirits seemingly lost all chance when she hopped out of the starting gate and spotted the field a half-dozen lengths. She quickly gathered herself and cut the margin in half going into the turn. Despite a four-wide trip around the bend, she went from last to first after straightening in the lane, andHard Spirits drew off smartly in the final furlong to break her maiden at first asking on Aug. 21 in a six-furlong maiden special weight contest drew off at the end to win by 2 ¾-lengths while full of run at the wire.
The winner is owned by Larry Cascio and was bred by DNAce Thoroughbreds, Ltd. The bay filly’s dam Doin’ Hard Time is a sister to stakes winner Citron Kid, and her second dam Time’s Mistress won the Miss Preakness S. (G3)
