Governor Malibu goes for Belmont S. (G1) glory
June 8, 2016
Malibu Moon’s stakes-winning colt Governor Malibu drew the inside post in the field of 13 3-year-olds aiming to win the $1.5 million Belmont S. on Saturday.
Most recently a fast-closing second in the May 14 Peter Pan S. (G2), beaten just three-quarters of a length, Governor Malibu will be ridden once again by Joel Rosario and was made a solid 12-1 in the strong field.
Governor Malibu has never been worse than third in seven starts, while earning $209,600 for his owners Jump Sucker Stable and Oak Bluff Stable. He is trained by Christophe Clement.
Malibu Moon’s six stakes winners in 2016 include Carina Mia, brilliant winner of the Eight Belles S. (G2) on May 6 at Churchill Downs. The 3-year-old filly runs on the Belmont S. undercard in the $700,000 Acorn S. (G1), race 3 at 12:39.
The Belmont Stakes is race 11 on Saturday’s card. It is scheduled for 6:32 p.m. ET, and the race will be aired live on NBC.
