Got Stormy wins Grade 3 Honey Fox S. in thriller
February 28, 2021
Got Stormy, who was making her first start for My Racehorse CA, LLC and Spendthrift Farm, held off the late charge of Zofelle (IRE) and Feel Glorious (GB) to win the $125,000 Honey Fox S. (G3) Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
The multiple Grade 1 winner sold in late 2020 for $2.75 million to Spendthrift at Fasig-Tipton’s November Sale, with MyRacehorse subsequently acquiring an interest in the now 6-year-old.
Got Stormy was making her first start since finishing a close fifth in last November’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1). Sitting in second a couple lengths behind pacesetter Jakarta for most of the trip, Got Stormy finally got the lead with about a sixteenth of a mile to go, then held on to win the three-way photo.
“She’s a tremendous (mare),” rider Tyler Gaffalione said. “I’ve been able to get to know her the past few years and I have a lot of confidence every time I’m on her. She shows up every time. Really all the credit goes to Mark and his team to get her ready off the layoff. She fired a big one today.”
As she was prior to the sale, Got Stormy is trained by Mark Casse. The veteran conditioner has guided her to a total of nine stakes wins, six of them graded, topped by the Matriarch (G1) and Fourstardave S. (G1), the latter against males. Her record now stands at 11-5-3 in 27 starts, with earnings of $2,096,553.
