Gormley’s first Keeneland yearling brings $270,000
September 18, 2020
Multiple Grade 1 winner Gormley kicked off his Keeneland sales career in style on Friday when a bay colt by the Spendthrift stallion brought a winning bid of $270,000, which is 36 times his stud fee.
Consigned by Gainesway, Agent, the colt went to Lauren Carlisle, agent. Hip No. 1314 was bred by Rosa Colasanti, Dr. Naoya Yoshida and Kara McDermott.
“The Gormleys all look really fast,” said Carlisle. “This colt was physically well above the other yearlings in the session. We thought he had one of the best physicals we’ve seen.”
The Kentucky-bred is out of Crossing the Tape and is a half-brother to multiple stakes-placed Life Mission. Crossing the Tape is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Gabby’s Golden Gal and three-time Grade 2 winner Always a Princess.
Gormley, winner of the FrontRunner S. (G1) and Santa Anita Derby (G1), was one of the most popular first year sires of 2018, breeding 180 mares.
