Gormley first-timer easily wins MdSpWt unveiling
September 21, 2021
Gormly got his 10th winner from his first crop on Monday afternoon when Awesomely Shy rolled to a front-running, 3 ¼-length maiden special weight win at Indiana Grand.
The bay filly set all the fractions in the 5 ½-furlong affair for 2-year-olds. She led by a length entering the stretch, then drew off at will to win handily in 1:04.86 over a sloppy racetrack.
Awesomely Shy is owned by her breeder Paul King and is out of the Awesome Again mare Awesome Story.
In addition to his double-digit tally of winners, Gormley has three graded stakes horses, topped by Saratoga Special (G2) winner High Oak. Over the past weekend, his filly Mama Rina ran second in the Pocahontas S. (G3) at Churchill Downs.
