Good as Ever’ Casa Creed wins Fourstardave S. (G1) for second straight year

Casa Creed rallies to win the 2023 Fourstardave S. (G1) – Chelsea Durand/NYRA
Casa Creed proved victorious in the $500,000 Fourstardave S. (G1) Saturday at Saratoga, earning his second straight win in the one-mile turf race and the fourth career Grade 1 win for the 7-year-old son of Jimmy Creed.
Breaking from post six, Casa Creed was caught three wide in the first turn and was about five lengths off the pace set by longshot My Sea Cottage (IRE). Casa Creed held his spot down the backstretch and was wide again going into the final turn. He still had five lengths to make up coming into the stretch, but was up to the task and outran Annapolis to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:34.20 on the “good” turf.
After the race, his hall of fame trainer and owner were full of praise for the stable star.
“I knew they were going to try and get away a little better; they did and they got first run, but it didn’t matter,” said his conditioner Bill Mott. “He probably deserves a rest. He’s a good horse, very special. How can you ask for anything more? He’s improved with every year he’s raced. He’s as good now as he ever was.”
“To run in four straight Fourstardaves, regardless of where you finish is a ridiculous accomplishment,” winning co-owner Lee Einsidler of LRE Racing added. “To win it two years in a row and win it today at seven years of age. He’s remarkable. I’m thinking maybe we’ll bring him back and try again next year.”
The Fourstardave is a Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In Challenge race, securing Casa Creed a starting stop in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) in November. Saturday’s win upped his record to 9-5-5 in 33 starts and earnings to $2,460,308. Casa Creed was bred in Kentucky by Silver Springs Stud, LLC.

Casa Creed, a $105,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase, is one of five graded winners for Jimmy Creed, who also has 21 black-type winners. Casa Creed is out of Achalaya, who produced a 2021 colt named Bold Landing (Omaha Beach) and hammered for $775,000 from White Birch Farm at Keeneland September, and a yearling filly by Authentic, who just brought $725,000 from Live Oak Plantation at FasigTipton Saratoga earlier this week.
