Good and Stout the latest stakes winner for Coal Front
December 10, 2023
Good and Stout held off a hard-charging El Dinero to win Saturday’s $100,000 La. Champions Day Juvenile S. at Fair Grounds to give the 2-year-old Coal Front colt his first stakes win.
The dark bay colt is the second stakes winner, and third stakes horse overall, from his sire’s first crop. Good and Stout was also Coal Front’s initial maiden winner earlier this summer.
Breaking from the inside post, Good and Stout settled a few lengths behind a fiery first quarter-mile of :21.77. He was a length from the front coming into the stretch before coming through a narrow opening to take the lead with a furlong to run. He dug in gamely to stop the timer in 1:12.22 for the six furlongs on a fast track.
With a pair of stakes placings before Saturday’s win, Good and Stout is now 2-1-1 in five starts and has earned $101,000 for owner Whispering Oaks Farm LLC. Bred by Adcock’s Red River Farm and Hume Wornall, Good and Stout hails from the deep female family of champion Bernardini, as well as Grade 1 winners Cara Rafaela & Love and Pride.
