Goldencents’ Vodka Gimlet scores first stakes win
February 6, 2022
The hot start of 2022 for Goldencents continued on Saturday when Vodka Gimlet earned his first stakes win in the $100,000 LA Bred Premier Prince S. at Delta Downs (WATCH RACE).
The bay 3-year-old is the fifth stakes horse of the year for his sire, and the second stakes winner in as many weekends.
Already stakes-placed as a 2-year-old, Vodka Gimlet came from well off the pace in the one-mile Prince. He was near the back of the nine-horse field for the first half-mile, then began to roll past horses as he made his way around the final turn. He cruised by stablemate Brian’s Iron Mike in upper stretch and went on to win by 2 ¼-lengths.
The winner is owned by Ellen Epstein and has earned $102,645 while posting a record of 2-0-2 in six starts. Vodka Gimlet was bred by 5 B Farm.
A champion sire of his generation the past two years, Goldencents is the early leader on this year’s Fifth-Crop sire list by stakes winners, stakes horses and winners. He is standing this year at Spendthrift Farm for $15,000 S&N.
