Goldencents’ Looms Boldly takes Saratoga’s John Morrissey H. for third black-type win
August 8, 2024
Looms Boldly led from gate to wire to win the $125,000 John Morrissey H. to give the 4-year-old son of Goldencents his third career black-type victory on Aug. 8 at Saratoga.
Breaking from the outside post in the field of six, Looms Boldly quickly took command and led the field through a quarter mile in :22.76. He began to edge clear of Factually Correct around the turn, then poured it on in the stretch to win by 3 ½-lengths in 1:10.41 for the six furlongs on a fast track.
“That [going to the front] was the plan,” said Blake Cox, assistant trainer to Brad Cox. “[It was a] great post position outside with a speed horse. We were going to try and be speed of speed. We broke well, the horse to the inside of us [Rotknee] did not, so we took advantage of it and took them the whole way.”
Looms Boldly, owned by Ten Strike Racing, won the Damon Runyon S. and Ontario County S. in 2023. His overall record is 5-3-2 in 12 starts, with earnings of $323,870. He was bred by Marshall Gramm and Clay Sanders. Looms Boldly’s dam See the Forest has produced a trio of stakes winners and is out of multiple Grade 1 winner Critical Eye.
Goldencents, currently sixth on the 2024 General Sire list, has over $9.6 million in progeny earnings. His 14 stakes horses this year are topped by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan.
